I am thrilled to announce that NUMBERS NERDS – the {almost] All-Girl Math Challenge has been accepted to the TRU BEGINNINGS workshop in New York!

Theatre Resources Unlimited (TRU) is a nonprofit organization created to help producers produce, emerging theater companies to emerge healthily and all theater professionals to understand and best navigate the business of theater.
TRU conducts several of these workshops each year. But even so, getting accepted isn’t easy. We submitted our show, sending them a synopsis of the story, 25 pages of script, the MP3 files of three of the songs, and the biographies of the creative team. Then we waited as we were evaluated against the other applicants.
The workshop will have a panel of commercial producers, directors and writers. The workshop will focus on the “world of the show” and the “I want” song of the main character. So they will experience just a section of the show. They’ll see a few minutes of dialogue, to get a feel for the characters and the story (and the writing). And that dialogue will lead into the “I want” song. You can read my previous blog about the importance of the “I want song” in musicals here.

Having watched the presentation, the panel will give us feedback about how to make the show better!
Maisie Rose, the actress who played the role of Melissa in the Chicago Musical Theatre Festival’s workshop production in August 2016 will again play the role and sing “Melissa’s First Theorem” for the workshop.
The workshop is NEXT week….so here we are busy making arrangements – reserving the rehearsal room, casting the additional character, sending scripts and scores, making travel arrangements…and of course…getting nervous and excited.
More details to follow!
