SYNOPSIS:
Against a backdrop of drama-queens-turned-janitors, loose ferrets, and college pressure, a diverse (almost) all-girl high school Math Team faces a crisis. They must band together to surmount their differences, figure out if unicorns are extinct, and raise the money to go to the National Math Challenge.
In Numbers Nerds, we meet the student obsessed with Einstein and the feisty Catholic schoolgirl who channels the strong nuns who taught her. We get to know the ditzy savant who calculates on the fly and the shy, home-schooled boy who breaks the gender barrier by accident.
The small cast, with its colorful three-dimensional characters, offers directors a strong vehicle for their talented girls. With energetic and edgy music that speaks to today’s young people, this show is a perfect musical choice for community theatres, colleges and high schools. A zany, effervescent, heartfelt musical comedy, Numbers Nerds zips along to its crowd-pleasing and toe-tapping conclusion: not only can girls do math, they can make us laugh while doing it.
